WHAT IS CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY?

Proper alignment of the body does not begin and end with the spine. Craniosacral therapy is a form of bodywork that uses gentle touch to assess and enhance the structure of the musculoskeletal system, overlying fascia and functioning of the nervous system and body as a whole. The craniosacral system is part of the network of connective tissue (aka fascia) that links and connects the cranium, spine, pelvis, muscles and organs. It encloses the membranes around the brain, spinal cord, and cerebrospinal fluid all the way down to the sacrum. That means that the integrity of your cranium bones can translate down to the function of your sacrum and hips.

The interconnection of the fascia means restrictions in the body can translate to dysfunction in different areas; for example organ malposition may contribute to back pain or your knee pain may be related to an imbalance of muscle strength. Through head injuries, chronic poor posture, dental devices, and daily stresses of life the integrity of our cranium and musculoskeletal system leads to disharmony; headaches/migraines, jaw pain, snoring, congestion, anxiety, brain fog, and musculoskeletal pain among other abnormalities.

The integrity of the cranium’s 22 bones has a profound influence on delivery of oxygen, removal of waste, sense of balance, and parasympathetic nervous system. As well as the entire fascial system and rhythm are serving as a pump, distributing the fluids that bathe individual cells and are also involved in the flow of fluids and delivery of nutrients to the body. The skull and it’s delicate passages of blood, air, lymph, and cerebrospinal fluid are often overlooked in the realm of structural balance.

Thorough investigation of the dynamic relationship between our fascia, muscles and bones makes for longer lasting effects. Practitioners assess the fascial tissues, craniosacral rhythm, and cranial sutures to identify areas of imbalance and disharmony. From their practitioners release restrictions in the body, correct structural integrity, and help realign the craniosacral skeletal system. Many patients also report esthetic/cosmetic benefits as the symmetry of bones and teeth shift over a series of treatments. You can expect to feel deeply relaxed while restrictions unwind, leaving you feeling at ease, pain free and restored.

What is involved in a Craniosacral Session?

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle noninvasive hands-on treatment that follows the subtle movements of your fascia or connective tissue. The physician will lightly place their hands on areas of restriction that facilitates the body to gently release fixations. During the session, the person is fully clothed and the therapist evaluates movements from different parts of the body. A session usually lasts one hour but can vary depending on the condition.

What do people usually experience with craniosacral therapy?

Most people feel very relaxed and some even fall asleep. Many people can feel the movement inside their body as well and describe is as gentle unwinding, floating or light stretching. Tingling and heat are commonly felt as fixations are released. Because craniosacral therapy is so relaxing, most people can tap into their subconscious and identify blocks to healing and belief patterns that are preventing total health. This dialog represents the most powerful and deep healing that can take place, You can expect to feel deeply relaxed while restrictions unwind, leaving you feeling at ease, pain free and restored.

Craniosacral Effects on the body Physiology:

  • Increase in blood flow to the brain

  • Blood pressure and heart rate decrease helping the autonomic nervous system to rebalance

  • Increase in parasympathetic activity

  • Increased digestive movements

  • Increased range of motion in joints

  • Improved circulation

  • Rebalance muscle ligament and tendon tension

  • Increased sinus drainage

  • Decrease in pain by affecting nerve, lymph and pain receptors found within connective tissue itself

  • Improved respirations

  • Increased lymphatic flow

  • Overall feeling of relaxation and calmness

Craniosacral therapy may be appropriate for:

  • Neck or back pain

  • Headaches

  • TMJ

  • Muscle or joint pain

  • Connective tissue disorders

  • Sciatica

  • Brain injuries

  • Ringing in the ears

  • Snoring or sleep apnea

  • Chronic Fatigue

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Anxiety/ Depression/ Hyperactivity

  • Allergies/ Sinus congestion

  • Ear infections

  • Post surgery recovery

  • And More!

Alchemy Bodywork Combines Craniosacral therapy, Visceral manipulation and Osteopathic assessments.

Alchemy bodywork sessions involve a sophisticated assessment of the patterns which cause pain and dysfunction in the body. We analyze the intricate relationship between the bones of the spine and extremities, muscles, connective tissue, organs and activation/inhibition of muscles - all which contribute to your overall physical well being. Our bodywork services are unique because they are integrative across multiple body systems and layers of the body, thus treating the whole person. We then treat utilizing our training in craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, applied kinesiology, and subtle musculoskeletal manipulation to most effectively address our findings. Each treatment is tailored to your body’s unique intuitive needs and may include soft tissue work, craniosacral, muscle energy technique, gentle stretching or spinal corrections. You can expect to feel deeply relaxed while restrictions unwind, leaving you feeling at ease, pain-free and restored.  Over several sessions, our goal for you is to possess a body capable of thriving in the life you’ve sought to live while maintaining itself without the need for frequent maintenance visits.
